- Catch Story: Fishing the Mississippi River near downtown Little Falls is one of our favorite fall activities. The smallmouth stack up and they are hungry. Willie & I launched our boat around noon. It took us awhile to find the fish, but when we did, we were rewarded. We were using larger sucker minnows on a circle hook with a n 18 inch leader and 3/8 egg sinker. Willie made his cast, detected the bite & set the hook. The fish put up a great fight, I was worried we were going to lose it at the side of the boat as it thrashed around on the surface. We got it in the net and Willie had what may be a new personal best Smallmouth. We even made time to swing by the MN Fishing Museum & Hall of Fame afterwards. Very memorable trip to Little Falls.
