  • Catch Story: It was a warm December evening. All the kids were bored of fishing and were now chasing after one another and taking turns pulling each other on the sleds across the ice. While the kids stayed busy making noise, my fellow Team Toad fishing partner/teammate Brad and I were not catching a darn thing. 5pm rolls around, time to feed the kids dinner. They all piled in the permanent ice house to feast on a cooked frozen pizza. "Ahhh, peace and quiet," I thought to myself. 15 minutes later buddy was standing outside of my 1 person portable shooting the breeze when I decided to jig my line a few times. Suddenly, right after jigging, my slip bobber slowly sank down under the ice and floated away. I gave it a good yank, only to expect to pull up a small crappie. Well... it wasn't. My drag started to scream. I yelled out to Brad, "it's a big one, it's a big one!" After 6 minutes of fighting and now 3 grown men piled in my portable shelter, it surfaced up to the bottom of the ice. "IT'S A, IT'S A CATFISH!" my other buddy yelled as the mystery fish had a burst of energy and took more line out. I finally fought it back to my hole and I heard Brad, who was kneeling waiting to land it, "Ohhh my, it's a huge walleye!" I got it positioned under the hole and Brad stuck his arm in the frigid water to pull out a 29 1/2" walleye. That crushes my personal record and after talking to the Southwest Metro DNR and extensive research, it is one of, if not the biggest walleye in the lake. Great night with great memories that will be hung on my wall forever.
