- Catch Story: It was the season opener last year and it was my first time ever muskie fishing. The day was overcast, breezy with some off and on drizzle. My best gal pal/fishing buddy, my golden retriever Clark and I were on the water, in my little 14ft boat, by about 10am. Cast after cast and hour after hour went by with still no action. Knowing muskies are the "fish of 10,000 casts" and this being my first time I didn't really expect to land one that day. A few hours went by and as I was reeling in this one cast I noticed I had a big pile of weeds I was pulling in with my spinner (muskie lures are heavy! what did I know!) As it got closer to the boat, I realized it wasn't weeds at all but a muskie following my lure!!! I freaked out and got way too excited yanking my lure out of the water!! No figure 8! Ugh! I saw the direction in which she swam away so after I took a few seconds to calm down, I cast out that way. First cast.....second cast.....come ooonnnnn.....third cast...BOOM!!! I hooked her!! After a little bit of a struggle figuring out how to get her into the boat and unhooked (I didn't have a net big enough..i do now!) we snapped a few pics, took a measurement and released her. I was shaking with adrenaline the whole time and will never forget that experience! Can't wait to land another!
