- Catch Story: I caught the Lake sturgeon downtown Hastings, Minnesota on December 2nd 2023 I was using my 8 Foot Beef Kitty catfishing pole with a size 4000 open faced spinning reel, 65lb braided line to heavy duty swivel to 50lb fluorocarbon liter to a #6 circle hook with whole Shad double backed. The Lake sturgeon and I battled for 40 minutes along the river bank, I eventually landed the fish to shoer and got an official measurement of 64 1/2 inches I spoke with a DNR Fisheries Expert and the man gave a guesstimate for the Sturgeon to be in the weight of 72 to 74Lbs
