- Catch Story: It was late, about 9:45 PM and I was trolling, fishing for crappies over an emerging cabbage bed when I got the strike. I started to reel in the fish and could feel it trying to go deep on me as I worked it up through the cabbage. I had been catching northerns all night so I assumed I had hooked a larger northern and was wondering how much longer it would be before it would bite off the line. I worked the fish to the boat and it ran a couple times. I worked the fish in again and this time I was able to get the landing net under the fish and get the fish in the boat. Because it was late I was wearing a head lamp and while I could tell where the fish was in the water, but couldn't tell what species of fish I caught until it was in the boat. The first thing I saw was the tail and when I saw the white on the tail I was a very happy fisherman. My only regret was that I was fishing by myself, consequently was not able to get a photo of me holding up the walleye before it was released. I know that folks catch walleyes a lot bigger than this one, but catching and releasing this fish was still a real thrill for me.
