- Catch Story: I was fishing on Crooked Lake with my nephew and buddy, Jeff. We were just looking to fish for a few hours so we stayed in the Cities and chose a local lake. We were in @ 12-14 ft feet of water fishing with shiner minnows on red hooks with 6 lb test. We had caught a few Northern Pikes and were having a good time. Then my bobber made its way down the hole, I waited till my bobber was below the ice so I knew it was in his mouth. Then when I set the hook it was like snagging a car bumper. LOL. He pulled and fought for awhile, I had him up to my hole and he would just take my drag and run. Didn't want him to break my line so I was careful. Finally the third time up we got his head to come up through our 10" hole which he filled out very well. His stomach looked like he swallowed an NFL football for lunch, @ 18"s of girth and @ 25+" long. My buddy's been fishing for over 30 years and said he's never seen a bass that big! Obviously I hadn't either. Unfortunately it's a catch and release only lake on all bass so being the avid fisher I am, I released him. Hopefully I can catch him again someday. Next time I'll have a scale and ruler, cause you never know when or where a big fish will strike, so be prepared.
