  • Catch Story: Me and my brother were doing some pandemic panfish angling in the backwaters of the Mississippi using ultralight spinning tackle. Had boated a few decent sunnies when my bobber started to twitch. Thought it was a finicky bluegill, but set the hook hard (which is sort of my M.O.). My brother - "is it a sunfish?" Me - "I don't think so" The fish took off, testing the limits of my 5'6" ultralight rod and 4 lb test. The bobber would disappear and the water would boil when the fish took off. After several runs, she had tired out. I was able to gently guide her to the side of the boat where my brother performed a masterful net job. After some photo ops, we let her back into the water. She surfaced several times as if to salute us for the clean fight. We will be back next year, when she has reached state record size!
