  • Catch Story: After work my friend Mike and I headed out to Dead Coon on a whim. The fish haven't really been biting enough to let people know the bite was on. After testing the motor for the first time this year, and replacing one tire on the trailer, we took off. Catching a mounter walleye is something we talk about on nearly every outing. I told Mike, "Mike do you have a net, cause if we catch a mounter we're screwed". No net! We got out there at about 7:30pm. First couple casts we had two keepers in the boat. We knew tonight was going to be good! The temp was nice and the sun was shining without the burden of bugs. It was just plain beautiful out. After fishing for an hour or so, and the sun setting, I hooked a fish and I knew it was big. I told Mike to grab all my tackle boxes out of my bag and use that as a net. As the fish came into sight my adrenaline was pumping like never before. I tried my best to direct the monster into the bag, with my line catching on the bag. I figured it would have been a goner, but Mike was able to wrestle her into the boat after nearly losing my bag. I told him if she was over 30" she was going on the wall. She fell short at 29.5". However, fish like this happen at the rarest of moments and I was grateful just to land such a fish. After that we had confidence we were going to do great, but the fishing ended soon with the wires of the lights smoking up and causing havoc. Overall, the story is all that matters, and hopefully it happens again for the people I'm fishing with.
