  • Catch Story: I'm applying for my nephew. This was his first fishing trip with "the guys". We arrived that day and wanted to explore the water around the cabin since we had never fished vermilion. About 8:45, Ethan casted a half oz jig with a plastic body that was an original color. This color was original because his other uncle had to plastic bodies melt and run together in his tackle box. It vaguely looked like a crayfish. Against my judgment he was casting it without bait. He casted on a small ledge of about 4 fow that was behind a buoy on the NE side of Grove island. The small ledge breaks to deep water. The walleye engulfed the jig and the fight was on. Ethan learned how to fight big fish from this day on. he made the mistake of reeling against his drag but landed the fish. I've fished walleye in lots of places but never seen such a dark walleye. The picture doesn't do it justice. It was big, fat, and dark black and gold. Ethan is hooked on fishing trips now.
