  • Catch Story: On June 11, 2022, my father and I were trolling for walleyes on Little Vermillion Lake, in St. Louis County, MN. As we trolled past a point, on the edge of a dropoff in 12 feet of water, my father pointed out 2 very large fish on the depth finder, that were much larger than any of the other fish that we had marked that day. Approximately 30 seconds after passing over the fish, I had a very hard hit on my rod, which was rigged with a silver Rapala SR-5. After I played the fish for quite some time, my father successfully netted the fish for me, and we brought it into the boat for measurement and a picture. To our surprise, this was a very large walleye, measuring 32 inches! Then, after successfully measuring the fish, and taking a picture, we released the fish back into the lake, and it swam away unharmed. This was the largest walleye that I have caught in my 40 years of fishing the Minnesota Boundary Waters, and it was really the thrill of a lifetime! We were fishing out of Pine Point Lodge, in Crane Lake, MN and Jeff Erickson, the owner, can also attest to my catch, as we showed him the picture as soon as we returned to the lodge.
