- Catch Story: Drake is 8 years old and seems to be able to catch almost anything in the lake, but this was rare. Drake caught this crazy unique 9 ¼ Sunfish. It was very colorful with iridescent markings that looked like no other fish Drake or his dad has ever seen before. Dad took lots of photos of the big Sunfish before Drake released it. Dad sent the pictures out to all the fishermen he knew and received so many different ideas of what the fish could be. Finally, he contacted the Assistant Area Fisheries Supervisor at the MN DNR with the supporting evidence and his hypothesis. She confirmed that the fish was a Hybrid Sunfish. More specifically it was probably a Male Hybrid Sunfish - a cross between a Female Green Sunfish and a Male Bluegill Sunfish. It was a fun exercise trying to identify the fish and very fun for Drake catching such a rare Master Angler fish.
