  • Catch Story: Cooper is 9 years old and is exactly 1 month from his birthday. We were suppose to play in a baseball tournament and we ended up raining out. I went to the store to cook ribs for the family tonight to try to pick up the spirits a little bit. Then I got a call from a buddy of mine Scott. He said "let's go try to get Cooper that First Walleye. Cooper wanted to jump at the opportunity. We went to the store and picked up some rain suites and decided to give it a shot even with it being windy and 49 degrees. Cooper is the type of kid that we find on YouTube watching fishing videos. He has always dreamed about catching a walleye. He has caught a lot of crappies and bass but have never a walleye. When we got to the lake you could tell he was really excited. Not a word was said till we got to the spot. Dad can you help me put the bait on I am going to cast, I don't want it to come off. So cooper made his first cast while I was trying to get my rod ready. Then he made his second cast and it was just inches from the dock. He looked at me and I thought, I remember making casts like that and thinking there is a huge fish there just waiting for that "one perfect cast". His smile defiantly told me I was right. I casted my lure out and then Cooper said "I have one". Scott said to me, "get the net." Cooper's rod was bent over and he said I thinks it's a big one. He was fighting the fish and it was staying down. It started to move around the boat and I watched my nine year old take a fish right around the motor and then the fish started to pull drag. I though wow he has a nice northern on. Then when the fish came to the surface Scott said "that is one big eye". Cooper was already yelling "let's go" and beaming from ear to ear when I brought the fish up with the net. I couldn't believe it. What a way to start you love for walleye fishing. What an amazing first walleye! Cooper decided to keep the fish because he wants to eat it and share with the family. He said he won't keep a big one like that again. They make big ones. I can't imagine the dreams he is having tonight! We are so proud of ya Coop!!
