- Catch Story: I had never fished for Lake Sturgeon before this year, but I had always wanted to. I went out with a family friend who knew the Rainy River, and he put us on fish. He caught a 50"+ Sturgeon the first day, but I only caught a handful of Suckers. I brought my father-in-law out the next day and we went to the same spot on the river. He caught two small Sturgeon to start the day and I was still catching only Suckers. Eventually I had my chance and it was worth the wait... I fought the fish for 12 minutes before handing my pole over to my father-in-law as I grabbed the fish by the tail and brought it in to the boat. I will never forget that moment!! After taking some pictures, we measured it and weighed it, determining it was 55" and 42 lbs. 5 ounces. It was a fish of a lifetime!
