- Catch Story: I grew up fishing Bass and Pike, but got into Walleye a few years ago when I started guiding. Last summer was a Walleye bonanza for me! Big Detroit and Pelican Lake both produced multiple large fish, with 3 over 27". The fish I am submitting was a 29" Walleye I caught on Lake Pelican. I was using a Northland Baitfish Spinner tipped with a Jumbo leech. I simply trolled around the hot spot I found and caught Walleye after Walleye all summer long. I caught this guy on an 8' Wright and McGill trolling rod, which made for a stellar fight!! I love the way Walleyes hit the bait like a Mack truck. Although I started a Bass and Pike guy, Walleyes now hold the key to my heart!!
