Those We Honor

You’ll find more than just fishing celebrities in this list. One can make a significant impact
on the lives of many without ever being well known. It is important to honor all of
those who had a great influence on the great sport of fishing, whether famous or not.
Corporate advances tend to be much more visible to us. For it’s their products that
shape the evolution of the sport of fishing.

Based in Grand Rapids, Minn., Tom Neustrom has guided anglers for over 30 years. While Tom guides on several dozen lakes across Minnesota, he is strongly identified with the fishing scenes and guided fishing trips on Winnibigoshish, Leech, Cass, Bowstring, Sand, Pokegama and Upper Red lakes. He guides on lakes and streams for multiple species, including walleyes, trophy pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, muskies, jumbo perch, crappies, and bluegills.

Along with his customers, Tom Neustrom’s guiding repertoire includes promotional trips with outdoor writers and company sponsors. When off the water and ice, he conducts fishing seminars, in-store promotions, and a fishing school, thereby sharing his fishing expertise with the angling public. He works closely with various outdoor media. Tom’s media work includes written fishing articles and “Guides Corner,” a radio show on KMFY-FM in Grand Rapids, Minn. that he has hosted since 1992.

Tom’s reputation as a legendary top guide, fishing educator, and promotional angler is backed up by multiple company sponsors who appreciate his hard work and product-promotion via in-depth knowledge and communication skills. He’s been touted as a top walleye-fishing guide by In-Fisherman, North American Fishing Club, Fishing Facts Magazine, Minnesota Sportsman, and others.

Tom Neustrom’s support for wise fisheries management and his passionate concerns for angling’s best interests are behind his appointments to the Minnesota DNR Fishing Roundtable, the State Walleye Advisory Committee, and the Red Lake Advisory Council. He believes strongly in preserving and enhancing the resource and the sport, for today’s anglers and for future generations.

In 2009, thanks to deserved recommendations from clients, company sponsors, and fellow angling professionals, Minnesota’s Tom Neustrom was inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as a Legendary Guide.
