  • Catch Story: Me and my dad had been muskie fishing for about a month and had seen a bunch of follows, but we hadn’t caught one yet. It was a super calm day out and we had been out for about an hour when we both saw it. The muskie was laying on top of the water about 50 feet from our boat. My dad let me cast to it because he wanted me to catch it. My lure landed about 10 feet away from it, and it bit right away. The fight was intense but lasted like a minute because we had proper gear. The fish was hooked on the outside of the mouth, so it was really easy to get it unhooked. It took about 2 minutes to try to pick it up from the net because I had never handled a fish that large before. Once I picked it up, my dad measured with a tape measurer and we were both freaking out because it was 51”. After that, I moved to the front of the boat and we took a few pics. I moved to the back of the boat to release the fish, but he didn’t like the pictures because of how much the fish was sagging. So, I took a couple more pics in the back before releasing the muskie. In total, it was out of the water for about a minute. We were unable to weigh it because we didn't have a net scale. It swam away in about two minutes.
