  • Catch Story: It was a cold and windy Sunday but we decided to brave the elements and get some open water action in before the big freeze-up. I was using 20# braid with a 1/4 oz pink jighead tipped with a fathead minnow. I had some luck throughout the day pulling in eater walleye and a few decent Northerns. The sun decided to peek out of the clouds late in the afternoon and that is when this fish hit. At first I was convinced that I had snagged a log. Whatever was on my line was HEAVY, but I was able to get it off the bottom. I thought to myself "I'm gonna pull this log in and show my fishing companion and we'll have a good laugh about it". After a few moments my "log" started to thrash around: This was no log! This was a giant! I wasn't nervous at first because I thought I had a big carp on the line. I have seen some big carp in this stretch of river and the weight of this fish told me it was a carp. It wasn't until the fish came up and broke the surface of the water that I realized what was on. "Oh no, it's a walleye and my net is way to small!" Luck was on our side that day as my fishing companion somehow managed to get the fish into the net and up onto the bank. It was one of the all-time best net jobs, scooping the whole fish into the net and out of the river in one smooth motion. Catch of a lifetime and I will never forget it!
